What makes you realize that you've fallen in love?

I am just curious as to what makes people consciously realise that they have fallen in love with a person 

For me I dont really understand the concept of love, i can feel when I start have feelings for someone but I can snap out of it real easy 

So i just wanna know whether I actually have ever fallen in "love" with a person or is it just that I can climb out of the well before I fall any deeper 

I also have rooted this fact deep in my head that I might never find love. So whenever I feel for someone I just have to tell myself that they wont reciprocate the feeling ever.. maybe thats why i can snap out of it real easy 

I am an average looking girl who has trust issues who has never had a serious  boyfriend because I never found anyone who loves me so well, worth my time & casual relationships is a thing I dont really consider well 

Is it normal that I am like this? 
And What makes you realize that you've fallen in love?
